JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title : Training and Outreach Officer Duty Station : Dhaka Reports To : Training Manager Duration : Till 31 March 2025 (with possibility of extension) Start Date :  ASAP Context: BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. We use media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. We partner with civil society, local media and others to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues; and strengthen the media sector through capacity building. Our work is built on insights from our research and engagement with communities and is focused on key themes: governance and rights, media development, humanitarian, health, climate adaptation and resilience. Overall purpose: The Training and Outreach Officer will work closely with the Training Manager and other colleagues from project, research and training teams to design and deliver effective and imaginative training and outreach materials and activities with diversified target groups. The Training and Outreach Officer will also work to develop relationships with NGOs/INGOs and government partners, and lead familiarization, outreach, and training activities with practitioners, and community people. As part of the outreach activities, the s/he will cover BBC Media Action’s climate resilience and adaptation, media development, humanitarian, governance, and health portfolio. The successful candidate will also need to work with BBC Media Action’s existing partners to ensure that the outputs are effectively disseminated to the communities. The position is based in Dhaka but with travel to training locations across the country as necessary. In general, normal office hours will apply but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working time will be necessary. Main Duties & responsibilities: Co-ordinate a multi-programme setting of outreach activities, ensuring that deliverables are on track, on time and to the required quality standard. Closely working with project management, production and training teams to design an outreach plan and implement it effectively. Contribute to the design of engaging and effective training sessions and help write training materials (including syllabuses, course structures, session plans and handout/toolkit materials). Assist in delivering effective and engaging training and mentoring for participants from partner organisations, media outllets and volunteers at the community and stakeholder levels. Mentor personnel from partner organisations, ensuring that they receive the support they need as they roll out community engagement and accountability activities at the community level. Help to prepare community-facing communication materials and products. Collect and collate shared learnings and good practices from organisations and communities using community engagement content. Work closely with teams across BBC Media Action Bangladesh and consortium partners to ensure that communication with partners is planned, coordinated and effective. Provide timely and accurate forecasting and reporting information for outreach activities and deliverables to the Training Manager Represent BBC Media Action, communicate, liaise, and maintain networks with donors, partners and other stakeholders. Coordinate with admin, finance, procurement, and travel issues and provide assistance to respective focal points. Skills, knowledge and experience requirements: Criteria Essential / Desirable Experience in designing and delivering high-quality training and mentoring programmes within development setting E In-depth of informal training methods, including group-work facilitation and participatory approaches E Strong background of managing and conducting outreach activities around community and stakeholder engagement E Experience in documentation and report writing with high standard E Well-developed IT skills, including Microsoft Office. D Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to form and maintain effective working relationships at all levels. E Excellent English and Bangla language skills (written and spoken). D Strong understanding of rights and gender norms within development contexts. D Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the proven ability to prioritise, work independently and maintain attention to detail. E The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults.
